Description
The Rhône is the second largest wine-growing region in France. The vineyards thrive on both sides of the Rhône river, from Vienne to Avignon.
The Rhône Valley has been a hub of wine culture since ancient times 600 BC and is divided into two sub-regions with distinct vinicultural traditions, the Northern Rhône (referred to in French as Rhône septentrional) and the Southern Rhône (in French Rhône méridional).
On one side, the Rhône valley is home of the famous easy drinking côtes du Rhône accounting for 50% of the valley’s production. On the other side, there are beautiful appellations such as Côte-Rotie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Chateau-neuf-du-Pape… These 17 distinctive crus, truly express their individual “terroir”. The king of grapes there is the Syrah.
